Killing Faith

Killing Faith is the first book of the intriguing 'Faith' series of novels about an NYPD detective,a former Special Forces operative. Teamed with FBI Special Agent Faith Ward, their methods are unconventional, often brutal, and at times downright mystical.

When dismembered bodies start to appear in New York City, the search for a serial killer begins. Leading the hunt is Gabriel de Sade, a tough Manhattan detective. What should be a straightforward murder investigation escalates when yet more dismembered bodies are found. A very sick, psychotic murderer is loose on the streets of the city. Yet the case is to become more complicated than he could imagine. The nightmare is just beginning for de Sade, a Delta Force veteran of Afghanistan.

The FBI are also hunting for the serial killer and their evidence points to a Russian Mafiya baron, Grigory Gordieva. The pursuit leads Gabriel to Moscow with an FBI partner, Special Agent Faith Ward. They find themselves pitted against political interference from both American and Russian governments. Yet when they ask for help from the Moscow Militia de Sade finds them both corrupt and on the Mafiya payroll.

Their only assistance comes from an unexpected quarter, a Russian Orthodox Bishop. With his help, de Sade reaches the heart of the Gordieva’s Mafiya operations. The Russian retaliates by kidnapping Faith Ward. With only a discredited Militia detective to help him, he takes on the Moscow Mafiya. De Sade adapts his Delta Force tactics to wage a secret war on the Moscow streets. The action builds to a climax that is shattering and extraordinary.

The Proposal

Book Description

November 19, 2013
5 out of 5 star reviews

The Proposal (Perfect Match Series) by Lily Zante is, for me, a true romance story. It is about the meeting, the awkwardness, the awareness, the doubts, and the hopes of two people who quickly start to fall in love. Their romance involves the heat of passion which is put on hold, a decision that I felt was realistic considering the newness of the relationship. I appreciated the characters having room within the story to fully engage in all their relationships.
I had to put the book aside when half read. I soon realized that I was wondering what each character would do next.
I would recommend The Proposal by Lily Zante to those looking for an entertaining weekend read with memorable characters.

Shirley Link & The Safe Case

Who is Shirley Link?
"I put on my kindest face for the poor man. I even smile a little. Marie slashes her fingers across her neck, telling me to stop with the fake grin. She must think I look creepy again. I keep smiling, though. I need to practice. I have a problem with people thinking I'm mean." - Shirley Link
And so it goes, for Shirley Link. Brilliant, brazen and still a whole year away from her driver's permit. Sure, she's only 14 years old and has homework to do, but she'll put it aside for the right mystery!

Shirley Link's kickoff adventure pits her against a thief who's stolen thirty thousand dollars from her school's safe. Usually, she'd wrap that kind of case up before The Big Bang Theory. But there's one intriguing, frustrating detail. The half-ton safe disappeared too!
Shirley must find the culprit quickly, or else her beloved principal, Mr. Reese, will lose his job. As she digs deeper, Mr. Reese looks more and more guilty. Will Shirley save him, or get him tossed in jail?

"This is how it is to be Shirley Link, the best detective in the world, if I do say so myself. I can spot a lie like most people spot a zit. I see connections where they hide best. And I get in trouble every time I try to tell people what I do with my free time. Only a handful know about my talent. I prefer to keep it that way." - Shirley Link

Murder Once Removed

Book Description

September 14, 2013
A reporter’s mentor is killed while investigating a murder and she is quickly put on the trail to break the story open. When she finds herself over her head in a dangerous world of treachery, greed, power, and revenge, it is going to take all of her ingenuity—and a lot of help—if she’s going to solve the case and make it out alive. A first-rate page-turner filled with mounting, almost unbearable suspense, Roz Russell’s debut looks deep into the inner dimensions of the artistic mind to ask: is murder a form of art?

Joe Taylor, the leading investigative reporter for the Albuquerque Post, has mentored Jessica Curtis for the past six years. But now Joe's dead—murdered—and the only thing Jessica knows about the story he’d been working on, the Michael Lange murder, is that it happened three years ago and the killer has never been found. Now the investigation is hers and she’s about to realize she was a lot safer when she knew a lot less.

A high profile art dealer and construction entrepreneur in Santa Fe, Lange had dirt on every friend and foe in the tawny northern New Mexico city—and he wasn’t afraid to use it to his advantage. And when the body count rises and the danger escalates, Jessica is no closer to finding the murderer and everyone remains a suspect—including the enigmatic artist she has begun an affair with. As she scrambles to stay alive and break the story open, Jessica must answer the ultimate question: can she do so before the killer adds her to the list of victims?

A mystery novel that explores the power of art, Russell delivers a captivating meditation on fate, the inevitability of certain life events, and the cascading consequences of one act as it influences everything that happens afterwards. Perfectly paced with engaging characters, razor sharp turns and surprising twists, Murder Once Removed is a taut, suspenseful mystery that will keep you guessing until the final, explosive revelation.

Raines of Fire: The Alexa Raines Chronicles

Alexa Raines: Has gotten herself into and out of more sticky situations than most people even know exist. She’s made herself over and over again—literally—in the four-thousand years she’s been alive, and these days, she’s a private-detective-sometimes-bounty-hunter, who specializes in recovering kidnapping victims—at least, on paper. She sometimes works with the police to bring down serial killers, but mostly her business, which employs four others, “takes care” of things the law can’t—or won’t. She’s a hard worker, driving herself into exhaustion and her four employees crazy, but they all love what they do, and it helps that she pays them well.

THEN:
4000 years ago she was sold by her parents to serve as a temple maiden. The priests forced her into a sacred ritual which painfully transformed her into a human phoenix. A creature that cannot ever die.

After rebirth, she was furious and murdered the priests with her new powers and ran away. Wandering for years, she was found by a “wizard”, someone well versed in the arcane magical arts, and she taught her what she truly was, gave her a secret name, and taught her magic over the course of decades.

Eventually civilization found them and burned them both at the stake. She recovered, and began wandering again.

NOW:
Alexa is on the trail of someone killing Wicca in the mid-west. Little does she know that she will encounter a lover from years past that will complicate her assignment and her love life.

Dirty Sixth Street, Austin

Book Description

October 4, 2013
7864 words.

Part of a series of short stories, Texas Shorts.

“Dirty Sixth Street, Austin”

This short story is a first of several sorts.

My first story that takes six of my cast of characters in my fiction, the young cousins traveling and hanging around with each other, down into one of Austin’s most well known party streets.

Another first, is their involvement in a minor, but nevertheless, scary crime.

And a mystery, also of a sorts.

Besides the six children, Antone, Cherise, Simone, Tabitha, Buzz, and Zilker, two new characters, from Vermont, are introduced. Sam (Samantha) and her brother Matt. They're adults. :-)

It was great fun to write and reread.

With all best wishes, sincerely,

Adan
